Short-answer questions in the listening test
This type of question tests your ability to listen for facts (such as names and numbers) in the recording
In this type of question, you read a question and answer it in a few words with information from the recording
They can be used in any section of the Listening test
You may be asked for more than one point in one answer
Read the instructions very carefully for the word limit, as you will lose the mark if you write more than the limit
The answers come in order
How to answer short-answer questions in the listening test
Identify the key words in the question
The answer is likely to be a paraphrase of words in the question
Use the exact words from the recording
Keep to the word limit
Check your spelling – incorrect spelling will lose you the mark

Watch out for distractors. For example, the speaker might say, "The annual fee for the gym used to be £200, but it’s now £120." So it is important to wait for the final piece of information before writing your answer.
