File handling: Close - GCSE Computer Science Definition

File handling: Close refers to the process of properly shutting a file after you have finished working with it on a computer. When you open a file to read or write data, it’s important to close it once you’re done. This is because closing the file saves changes and makes sure the file doesn't get damaged or corrupted. It also frees up resources, like memory, that the computer was using while the file was open. In programming, you usually use a specific command or function to close the file, which helps keep your programs running smoothly and your data safe.
