Substance Misuse - GCSE Psychology Definition

Last updated

Substance misuse refers to the harmful or dangerous use of substances like alcohol, drugs, or medications in a way that is not recommended or is illegal. This can include taking more than the advised amount, using them for non-medical reasons, or using illegal substances. Substance misuse can lead to serious health problems, affect a person’s ability to function at school or in daily life, and may lead to addiction. Understanding substance misuse is important in GCSE Psychology because it helps us learn about the effects different substances have on the brain and behaviour, as well as how it impacts individuals and society.
