In GCSE Biology, the term 'mean' refers to the average value of a set of numbers or data. To find the mean, you add up all the numbers in the group and then divide the total by the number of items in that group. For example, if three plants have recorded heights of 10 cm, 12 cm, and 14 cm, you would add these numbers together to get 36 cm. Then, divide 36 by three to get a mean height of 12 cm. The mean gives you a central value that represents the overall trend in your data, helping you understand the typical result within your dataset.
