Climate Change - GCSE Geography Definition

Reviewed by: Bridgette Barrett

Last updated

Climate change refers to long-term changes in temperature and typical weather patterns in a place. This is mainly caused by human activities, such as burning fossil fuels, deforestation, and industrial processes. These actions increase the concentration of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, in the atmosphere, leading to global warming. This warming effect can cause more extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and changes in wildlife habitats and ecosystems. Understanding climate change is crucial for GCSE Geography students as it affects global environments and requires international cooperation and sustainable practices to mitigate its impacts.
