Gradient - GCSE Biology Definition

In GCSE Biology, the term "gradient" often refers to a difference in concentration or temperature between two areas. It indicates how much a substance, like a gas or a solute, changes from one place to another. Using the concept of a concentration gradient, substances like oxygen or nutrients move from where they are plentiful to where they are scarce, usually by a process called diffusion. This is crucial in understanding how cells take in what they need and get rid of waste, helping to keep them healthy and functioning properly.
