A tectonic hazard is a natural event caused by movements of the Earth's tectonic plates, which can lead to dangerous situations affecting people and places. These hazards include earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and tsunamis. Earthquakes happen when plates suddenly slip past each other, while volcanic eruptions occur when molten rock pushes up through the Earth's surface. Tsunamis are large ocean waves often triggered by underwater earthquakes. Tectonic hazards can cause damage to buildings, roads, and even lead to loss of life, making it important for us to study and understand them, especially in areas where these events are more likely to occur.
