Molecule - GCSE Physics Definition

A molecule is the smallest particle of a substance that retains all the chemical properties of that substance. It is made up of two or more atoms bonded together. Atoms are tiny units that form everything around us, and different combinations of atoms make up different molecules. For example, a water molecule consists of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom bonded together. Molecules can be simple, like oxygen which consists of just two oxygen atoms, or complex, like proteins that contain thousands of atoms. Understanding molecules helps us to learn how substances interact and change in chemical reactions.
