Solid - GCSE Physics Definition

A solid is one of the states of matter, characterised by its definite shape and volume. In a solid, the particles are closely packed together in a fixed arrangement, which means they can only vibrate in a fixed position. This tight structure gives solids their rigid form, so they do not change shape or spread out like liquids or gases. Examples of solids include ice, wood, or metal. Understanding solids is important when studying physics, as it helps explain how materials behave under different conditions, like when they are heated or subjected to forces.
