Tangent - GCSE Physics Definition

In GCSE Physics, the term 'tangent' refers to a straight line that touches a curve at just one point and does not cross it. This line is used to find the slope or gradient at that particular point on a graph. For example, if you have a distance-time graph of an object's movement, drawing a tangent at a point on the curve can help you determine the speed of the object at that exact moment. The tangent gives an instant rate of change, which is really useful for understanding how things move in physics.
