What is the role of the Rabbi?
In Jewish communities, the Rabbi is a respected and educated person who has studied and understands the sacred texts and traditions of Judaism
In Orthodox Judaism, a Rabbi is always male
In Reform Judaism, Rabbis may also be female
The Rabbi is the religious leader within a synagogue who:
Interprets Jewish law (Halakhah) and answers religious questions
Leads prayers and services in the synagogue
Gives sermons and guidance during festivals and Shabbat
The word “Rabbi” means teacher
The major function of a Rabbi is to instruct and guide people in the study and practice of Judaism

They play a key role during special services, weddings, Bar/Bat Mitzvahs and High Holy Days
