Migration - GCSE Geography Definition

Migration is the movement of people from one place to another, usually with the intention of settling temporarily or permanently in a new location. It can occur within a country, known as internal migration, or between countries, called international migration. People migrate for various reasons, including seeking better job opportunities, escaping conflict or natural disasters, or joining family members. Migration is influenced by push factors, like unemployment or war, and pull factors, like safety or higher living standards. Migration can also be forced or voluntary. Understanding migration helps us to see how populations grow and change, and how this impacts culture, the economy, and society in different regions.
