Hemisphere - GCSE Maths Definition

In mathematics, a 'hemisphere' refers to half of a sphere. Imagine cutting a round ball into two equal parts right through its middle; each part is a hemisphere. When dealing with geometry, you often calculate the surface area or volume of hemispheres. For surface area, don't forget that a hemisphere has both a curved surface and a flat circular base. Understanding hemispheres can help with problems involving 3D shapes, and is part of the study of geometry in the GCSE Maths course.
