Minimum point - GCSE Maths Definition

A minimum point on a graph is the lowest point in a specific area, where a curve reaches the 'bottom of a valley' before starting to go up again.

In mathematical terms, it is where the function changes from decreasing to increasing, indicating the lowest value in that section of the graph. If you are dealing with a quadratic curve shaped like a "U", the bottom of the "U" is the minimum point.

Identifying minimum points can help you understand the behaviour of the graph and solve optimisation problems.
