A coronary artery is a blood vessel that supplies the heart muscle with the oxygen-rich blood it needs to work properly. There are two main coronary arteries: the left coronary artery and the right coronary artery. Each of these arteries can branch into smaller arteries to cover different parts of the heart. If a coronary artery gets blocked or narrowed, it can lead to serious problems, such as a heart attack because the heart muscle will not get enough oxygen. Understanding how coronary arteries work is important for learning how the heart functions and stays healthy.
