Dominant Hand - GCSE Biology Definition

The term 'Dominant Hand' refers to the hand that a person most often uses for tasks that require precision, strength, or coordinated movement, such as writing, throwing, or eating. Most people have a dominant hand, which is either their right or left hand, and this is determined by the way their brain is wired. In biology, studying the dominant hand helps us understand how our nervous system is organised and how genes and environment can influence this preference. While the majority of people are right-handed, a smaller percentage are left-handed or ambidextrous, meaning they can use both hands equally well.
