Emulsify means to mix two liquids together that usually do not blend easily, like oil and water. In biology, emulsification is important because it helps to break down fats into smaller droplets, making them easier to digest. This is done in the digestive system with the help of a substance called bile, which is produced by the liver. Bile surrounds the fat droplets and keeps them separated, allowing enzymes to work on them more effectively. This process is crucial for our bodies to absorb nutrients from the food we eat.
