Protist - GCSE Biology Definition

Protists are a diverse group of mostly single-celled organisms that belong to the kingdom Protista. They are not animals, plants, or fungi but may share some features with these groups. Some protists, like algae, can make their own food through photosynthesis, while others, like amoebas, feed on other organisms. Protists usually live in watery environments such as ponds, lakes, and damp soil. Some are useful as a food source for other organisms, while others can cause disease, as with malaria. Studying protists helps us understand microorganisms and their roles in ecosystems and human health.
