In biology, a follicle is a small sac or gland found in the body where important processes happen. For GCSE Biology, the most common types of follicles to know about are hair follicles and ovarian follicles. Hair follicles are found in the skin and are the small openings from which hair grows. They also help in producing oils that keep your skin and hair healthy. Ovarian follicles, on the other hand, are found in the ovaries and contain immature egg cells in females. These egg cells can develop and be released during the menstrual cycle. Understanding follicles helps us learn about body growth, reproduction, and overall health.
