The sex chromosomes are a pair of chromosomes that determine an individual’s biological sex. Humans have two types of sex chromosomes: X and Y. Typically, females have two X chromosomes (XX), while males have one X and one Y chromosome (XY). These chromosomes carry genes that are important for the development of sexual characteristics, as well as genetic information that can affect other traits and health. Understanding sex chromosomes helps us learn more about genetics and how traits are passed from parents to children.
