Sexual Reproduction - GCSE Biology Definition

Sexual reproduction is a biological process in which a new organism is formed by combining genetic material from two different parents. Each parent produces gametes: sperm cells from the male and egg cells from the female. When these gametes fuse in a process called fertilisation, they form a new cell called a zygote. The zygote then develops into a new organism. Because the offspring inherits a set of genes from both parents, this type of reproduction results in greater genetic variation within a species.
