A transect is a straight line or path along which scientists take measurements or make observations to study changes in the environment. In GCSE Biology, using a transect helps students explore how different factors, such as light levels or soil type, affect the types of plants or animals living in an area. By placing a tape measure or rope on the ground, samples are collected at regular intervals to observe how biodiversity varies across a habitat. This method is useful for understanding how living things interact with their environment and can reveal patterns and relationships in ecosystems.
