Electron - GCSE Physics Definition

An electron is a tiny particle that is part of an atom, which is the basic building block of all matter. Electrons have a negative electric charge and are found whizzing around the nucleus, which is the centre of the atom.
They are much smaller than the protons and neutrons that make up the nucleus. Electrons are important because they help form bonds between atoms to create all the different materials and substances we see around us.
They are also responsible for electricity, as the flow of electrons in a circuit is what powers our electrical devices.
