Charles Darwin was a famous British naturalist who is best known for developing the theory of evolution by natural selection, a key concept in GCSE Biology. Born in 1809, Darwin travelled around the world on a ship called the HMS Beagle, observing plants and animals in different places. He noticed that species changed over time to better suit their environments, which he described in his book "On the Origin of Species" published in 1859. His ideas explain how living things adapt and evolve over long periods and help us understand the diversity of life on Earth.
