Chlorosis - GCSE Biology Definition

Chlorosis is a condition in plants where the leaves turn yellow because they are not making enough chlorophyll, the green pigment needed for photosynthesis. Chlorophyll is important because it helps plants capture sunlight to produce food. When a plant suffers from chlorosis, it might not be getting enough nutrients like iron, nitrogen, or magnesium, which are essential for making chlorophyll. Chlorosis can also happen if the plant is affected by diseases, pests, or is getting too much or too little water. Identifying and solving the cause of chlorosis is important to help the plant stay healthy and grow well.
