'Sterilise' means to remove or destroy all microorganisms, including bacteria, viruses, and fungi, to prevent the spread of infection. In biology and healthcare, sterilisation is used to make equipment, tools, and surfaces completely free from harmful microbes. This is especially important in hospitals, laboratories, and during medical procedures like surgery. Common methods of sterilisation in GCSE Biology include using high heat (such as autoclaves), chemicals, or radiation.
