Yield - GCSE Biology Definition

Reviewed by: Lára Marie McIvor

Last updated

In GCSE Biology, 'yield' refers to the amount of useful product obtained from a biological process, such as crop production or fermentation. For example, in agriculture, yield means the quantity of crops (like wheat or potatoes) harvested from a field. Yield is important because it shows how much food or useful material can be produced from plants or animals. Factors like soil quality, climate, fertilisers, and farming methods can all affect yield. Understanding yield helps scientists and farmers improve food production and efficiency.
