Carbon Footprint - GCSE Chemistry Definition

A carbon footprint is the total amount of carbon dioxide (CO2) and other greenhouse gases emitted directly or indirectly by a person, organisation, event, or product throughout its lifecycle. It is usually measured in tonnes of CO2 equivalents.

For students studying GCSE Chemistry, understanding the carbon footprint is essential because it relates to the impact of human activities on the environment, specifically in contributing to climate change.

By analysing carbon footprints, students can learn about the roles of different chemical processes in producing these emissions and explore ways to reduce their own environmental impact, such as through energy conservation and the use of sustainable resources.
