Reading - GCSE Maths Definition

In GCSE Mathematics, a reading refers to a measurement indicated by a scale on a machine or device. You probably do this several times per day already - when you "read" the time from an analogue clock face (of course we'd never say it like that!). More broadly, a reading may come from a set of scales that is displaying the weight of ingredients, or the reading shown on a gas or electricity meter. You have probably taken readings of temperature indicated by a thermometer in science experiments.
