Surface area is the total area that the surface of a three-dimensional object covers. The net of a three-dimensional shape can be very useful when attempting to calculate surface area. For GCSE Maths, finding surface area will involve knowing how to calculate the area for common two-dimensional shapes such as squares, rectangles, triangles and circles

For example, the surface area of a cube can be found by calculating the area of one of its square faces and then multiplying by six, as there are six faces on a cube.
