In the context of GCSE Physics, "compressed" refers to a state where the particles of a material or substance are pushed closer together, reducing the space between them.

This usually occurs when a force is applied to an object, causing it to occupy less volume. For example, when a gas is compressed in a cylinder, the gas particles are forced closer together, increasing the pressure within the cylinder.

Compression is a fundamental concept related to the behaviour of solids, liquids, and gases, and it plays a crucial role in understanding how materials respond to external forces, such as in the study of pressure and elasticity.
