Kilobyte - GCSE Computer Science Definition

A kilobyte is a unit of digital information or computer data storage. It is used to measure the size of files or the amount of data a computer can handle. One kilobyte is equal to 1,024 bytes. Bytes are small units that make up all digital data. For example, a simple text document could be a few kilobytes in size, while pictures and videos are usually much larger. Understanding kilobytes helps you grasp how much space activities on your computer might take up and is a basic building block for studying larger measures of data like megabytes and gigabytes.
