Expand - GCSE Maths Definition

In GCSE Maths, the term 'expand' refers to the process of multiplying out brackets in an algebraic expression. When you expand, you take terms inside the brackets and multiply them by the term(s) outside. For example, if you have 2(x + 3), you expand it by multiplying both x and 3 by 2, which gives you 2x + 6. Expanding is an important skill that helps to simplify expressions, making them easier to work with when solving equations or simplifying further.
