How do I answer an AQA GCSE Business 'State' or 'Identify' question?

State questions

  • In these questions you need to consider the case study and name, select, recognise or express, in clear terms, one relevant point

  • Your answer does not have to be a full sentence

Example

State one non-financial aim that an entrepreneur may have when starting a business.

[1]

Text "Make a profit" in black, handwritten style font with a green check mark symbol on the right, suggesting approval or success.

Identify questions

  • In these questions you need to select the correct answer from reading a case study, graph or table of data

  • Your answer does not have to be a full sentence

Example

Zephyr's T-shirts sell t-shirts with logos that are marketed as "Made from organically grown cotton.", though Zephyr is not sure that this is true. He buys 250 t-shirts from a distributor and checks each one for faults, looking for the following problems:

  1. Is all stitching in place and secure? pass/fail

  2. Is the T-shirt made from organic cotton? pass/fail

Zephyr sells all t-shirts that pass the first test for £30 each. If a t-shirt fails the checks, Zephyr sells the t-shirt at a discounted price of £20, but does not label any defects.

Identify one reason why Zephyr's T-shirts may fail to comply with consumer law.

Text reading "The claim that t-shirts are made of organic cotton" in handwritten font with a green check mark symbol at the end.
