Representing Your Own & Different Points of View (Edexcel GCSE Citizenship Studies): Revision Note
Exam code: 1CS0
Your own opinions and those of others
You should clearly explain your own opinion on the issue, based on what you have learned through research
For example, you might believe that schools should do more to promote mental health support
However, examiners expect you to show that you understand that other people may disagree
Some students might think existing support is enough, or that funding should be used elsewhere
Use evidence from your primary and secondary research to support different viewpoints
For example, survey results showing mixed opinions or interview responses that challenge your view
You should explain why some views are more persuasive than others
This could be because they are supported by stronger evidence or affect more people

Avoid dismissing opposing views
Showing respect for different perspectives demonstrates good citizenship skills
Team consensus
After considering all viewpoints, your team must decide what action to take
This decision should be based on evidence, not just personal preference
You should be able to explain how your team reached agreement
For example, through discussion, compromise or voting
It is acceptable if not everyone agreed at first
Examiners like to see negotiation and reasoned decision-making
Clearly explain why your final decision was chosen over other options
This shows judgement and evaluation, which are important for higher marks
