The topic of ‘my local area’ can appear in any of the exams - you might be asked to speak or write about yourself, or understand information about others. Let’s use the vocabulary, grammar and phonics we have seen so far to take a closer look at some typical exam questions and how you might tackle them.

My local area: listening

In the listening exam, there are questions where you need to decide if the speaker’s opinion is positive, negative, or positive and negative. To get the correct answer, you need to listen out for adjectives and opinion phrases. This question will help you to practise this.

Worked Example

Four young people are talking about their local area. What is their opinion?

Write P for a positive opinion.
Write N for a negative opinion.
Write P&N for a positive and negative opinion.
