Worked Example
Read aloud the following text in French.
J'aime voyager avec ma famille.
Le mois dernier on est allés en Belgique.
Nous avons mangé des frites.
Pour moi, il est important de profiter des vacances et de se relaxer.
Que pensez-vous de partir à l’étranger ?
Answer:
You should have identified the silent final -s in words such as allés, frites, avons
You should have pronounced the [oy] and [oi] sounds correctly
You should have remembered that -é, -er and -ez are the same sound in French
Holiday activities: reading
In the reading exam, you will need to identify different tenses and say what people do in the past, present and future.
Look out for time phrases to help you, e.g. ‘tomorrow’, ‘at the moment’, ‘yesterday’. You should also be able to identify tenses from the verb - look out for present tense verb endings, past participles, or a form of aller + infinitive to indicate the future.
Worked Example
Léa is talking about holiday activities. What does she say about each aspect?
Write P for something she did in the past.
Write N for something she is doing now.
Write F for something she wants to do in future.
Normalement, je préfère un petit appartement, mais la semaine dernière, je suis resté dans un hôtel près de la côte, avec une piscine où j’ai fait de la natation. C’était super et ça m’a aidé à me relaxer ! En ce moment, je reste chez un ami. Demain, nous allons visiter un vieux bâtiment pour prendre beaucoup de photos, comme des vrais touristes.
