Weather: speaking
In part 1 of the speaking exam, you will take part in a role-play. Your teacher will play the part of your friend, and you will ask and answer questions.
The role-play lasts between 1 and 1.5 minutes
You need to prepare answers to the prompts
You need to ask your teacher a question when you see the ? symbol
Each response must include a verb, but you don’t need to develop your sentences fully like you would in conversation tasks
This question will help you to respond to role-play prompts on the topic of current and future studies.

Say what the weather is like today. (Give one detail.)
Say what you like to do when it rains. (Give one detail.)

Weather: reading
In the reading exam, there will be questions where you have to answer in English. It is important to answer the question in sufficient detail but keep your answer precise - too much or too little information could give the wrong answer. This question will help you to practise this.
Worked Example
Fatia is talking about the seasons where she lives. Answer the questions in English.
Ma saison préférée, c’est le printemps, parce que les arbres sont verts et qu’il y a beaucoup de fleurs. L’automne dernier, il faisait mauvais, donc j’espère qu’il fera beau cette année. Normalement il neige en hiver - je trouve ça un peu embêtant, parce qu’il faut rester à la maison.

What was the weather like last autumn? [1 mark]
What normally happens in winter? [1 mark]

Weather: writing
In the writing exam, you need to translate five English sentences into French. There are two marks per sentence. This question will help you to practise translating into French.
Worked Example
Translate these sentences into French.
The climate in my country is very hot.
What is the weather like today?
It was very foggy yesterday.
When it snows, we play outside.
It will be too windy.
Answers:
Le climat dans mon pays est très chaud.
Quel temps fait-il aujourd’hui ?

This sentence cannot be translated literally because of the impersonal structure - we have to say ‘there was lots of fog’.
Quand il neige, nous jouons dehors. / Quand il neige, on joue dehors.
Remember that there are two possible French words for ‘we’, but they use different verb endings.
Il y aura trop de vent.
This sentence cannot be translated literally because of the impersonal structure - we have to say ‘there will be too much wind’.
