What is an embedded system?

In GCSE Computer Science, an embedded system is a specialised computer built into a larger device to perform a dedicated function. Unlike general-purpose computers, embedded systems are designed for specific tasks.

Examples of embedded systems:

  • Traffic lights

  • Medical devices
