Switch - GCSE Computer Science Definition

In computer science, a "switch" is a device used in networks to connect multiple computers or devices so that they can communicate with each other. Think of it like a traffic controller for data. It helps direct messages and information (data) to the correct destination by using something called a MAC address. Each device on the network has its own unique MAC address, kind of like a house number for computers. A switch makes sure that the data goes to the right device without clogging up the network with unnecessary traffic. This helps keep the network running smoothly and efficiently.
