System software is a type of computer program that controls and manages the basic functions of a computer. It helps the hardware and software work together, and it includes the operating system, which is the main program that runs the computer. For example, Windows, macOS, and Linux are different types of operating systems. System software also includes utility programs that help maintain, protect, and organise the computer system, like antivirus software and file management tools. Without system software, the computer would not be able to perform basic tasks and run application programs like word processors or games.
