Agribusiness - GCSE Geography Definition

Agribusiness refers to the large-scale, industrialised sector of agriculture. It includes the production, processing, and distribution of food and related products. Agribusinesses involve a range of activities, including farming, seed supply, agrochemicals, farm machinery, wholesale and distribution. In contrast to traditional small-scale farming, agribusiness takes a more commercial approach, often employing advanced technology and practices which increase outputs. This sector plays a crucial role in the global food supply chain and has significant impacts on economies, communities, and the environment. Understanding agribusiness helps GCSE Geography students explore the complexities of food production systems and their interactions with social, economic, and ecological aspects of our world.
