In GCSE Geography, the term 'producer' refers to living organisms, usually plants, that can make their own food using sunlight through a process called photosynthesis. Producers are the first level in a food chain or food web, providing energy and nutrients to other organisms like animals and humans. They are crucial for the ecosystem because they supply the energy that supports all other life forms. By converting sunlight into energy, they help maintain the balance and flow of energy in the environment.
