Mode - GCSE Maths Definition

In GCSE Maths, the term "mode" refers to the number that appears most often in a set of numbers. Imagine you have a list of numbers, like test scores or points in a game, and you want to know which score is the most common. Knowing the mode helps you do this by showing you which number shows up more frequently than any other numbers in the list.

For example, if your numbers are 3, 5, 5, 7, and 8, the mode is 5 because it appears twice, while all the other numbers appear only once. If two or more numbers appear most frequently, the set is called bimodal or multimodal, meaning it has more than one mode.

Understanding the mode is useful for summarising data and spotting trends.
