In GCSE Maths, "mutually exclusive" refers to a situation where two events cannot both happen at the same time. If one event takes place, the other cannot. For example, when you flip a coin, it can land on either heads or tails, but not both at once.
In terms of probability, if the occurrence of one event means the other cannot happen, these events are mutually exclusive.
