If two lines are perpendicular, then they intersect at a right angle, 90°. The adjacent sides of a square or rectangle are perpendicular. In relation to the graphs of two straight lines, if they intersect perpendicularly, the product of their gradients will be -1.

In GCSE Mathematics, recognising perpendicular lines and 90° angles can help in solving a wide range of geometric problems.
