In GCSE Mathematics, radius is the term used to describe the (straight-line) distance between the centre of a circle and its circumference. The radius is half the diameter. The radius, often abbreviated to just r, is used in many problems involving circles, such as finding the area of the circle, and area of sectors and segments.
