In the context of GCSE Mathematics, "solving" refers to the process of finding the answer to a problem.

For example, solving the equation 4 x minus 3 equals negative 2 would require two stages

  • adding three to both sides of the equation

  • dividing both sides of the equation by 4

leading to the solution x equals 0.25.
