Unit Ratio - GCSE Maths Definition

A unit ratio is a ratio where one quantity in the ratio is 1. This allows us to compare the amount of other quantity (or quantities) in the ratio directly, without any further calculation.

For example, in the ratio 1 : 3, the second quantity will be three times larger than the first. Unit ratios are often used in map/atlas scales and scale modelling.
