Neonates - GCSE Psychology Definition

Neonates are newborn babies, specifically those in the first 28 days of life.

In GCSE Psychology, understanding neonates is important because this stage is where essential physical and psychological development begins. During this time, babies develop early reflexes, like sucking and grasping, and start recognising their caregivers.

Studying neonates helps us understand how humans start learning and interacting with the world from birth. This stage sets the foundation for future development in areas like language, social skills, and emotional growth.
